Andrews Air Force Base is located about 10 miles outside of Washington, D.C. and offers numerous housing options both on and off post. You are eligible to live on base if your orders are for Andrews Air Force Base or NAF Washington. Traffic in and around the base tends to be heavier, and long commutes are typical. If you choose to live off-base, the best areas to avoid high congestion commutes are to the south and east of Andrews Air Force Base.
Andrews Air Force Base is the home to Air Force One and is host to the 16th Wing. The unit is responsible for the maintenance of rotary-wing aircraft in support of national security. The base was established in 1943 and was combined with the Naval Air Facility Washington in 2009 to form what is now Joint Base Andrews Naval Air Facility Washington.
